This could be SCIATIC PAIN, the condition is called Sciatica, a general term that includes any kind of inflammation of the sciatic nerve cord. The sciatic nerve is responsible for sensation and motor control to the buttocks, thighs, lower legs and feet. If the nerves are compressed or irritated at any point, pain can occur anywhere along the length of the nerve, or even skip from area to area. Causes of sciatica are varied including movements that require flexing/bending with twisting, excess weight, stress, having tight hamstring muscles (back of thigh), overuse of the muscles of the hip, and sitting too long, especially on a wallet in the back pocket. Gentle stretching can
relieve sciatic pain. If pain diminishes when you are lying down, or if you can find a
position of comfort, the problem is likely mechanical, and the exercises suggested below
may help. However, if you cant find any position of comfort, it is highly
recommended that you see a medical practitioner before starting any exercises. |
